Former General Motors Plant Relaunched in St. Petersburg
The former General Motors plant in the Shushary district of St. Petersburg, which is owned by the holding company "AGR" (AGR Automotive Group), has been relaunched, a TASS source reported.
According to the source, the facility is now producing Jaecoo J6, J7, and J8 vehicles (a sub-brand of the Chinese company Chery Automobile). As TASS had previously reported in regional business circles, production at the former GM plant in St. Petersburg was expected to resume in early 2026.
"The plant in Shushary has only just started operating. Currently, Jaecoo J6, J7, and J8 models are being assembled," he said, adding that employees are working in one shift for now.
In December 2025, the automobile plant announced the recruitment of employees for the former GM site. At that time, positions such as Chinese translator, mechanics, assembly line operators, and technicians were required. Salaries ranged from 95,000 to 170,000 rubles.
The relaunch of this industrial site is an important signal of the automotive industry's adaptation and the creation of new production capacities.
We will discuss in detail the strategies, challenges, and opportunities of this automotive industry transformation at the "Auto+Automechanika Moscow" exhibition from May 12 to 14 at the "Timiryazev-center"!
