AvtoVAZ Summarizes the Results of Its Plant Modernization
The Russian automaker has invested 543 million rubles in modernization, which took place from May 1 to May 17.
In May 2026, AvtoVAZ completed a stage of production modernization. Between May 1 and May 17, the company allocated 543 million rubles from its own funds for these efforts, the automaker’s press service reported.
Key results:
Granta, Iskra: The preparation of component kits for vehicle assembly has been optimized; roof loading onto the Granta body welding line has been automated.
Vesta, Aura: Automated welding tongs have been introduced at selected welding stations.
Niva: New welding equipment has been installed, and additional welding stations have been set up.
Additional work carried out in preparation for the launch of the Lada Azimut:
A dedicated area for assembling component kits has been organized;
An automated guided vehicle (AGV) has been deployed to deliver components to assembly stations;
Space, equipment, and tooling have been prepared to expand the crossover’s modifications;
Upgrades have been made to the flanging equipment, the preparation chambers for base and secondary primer application, and the polishing line in the paint shop.
In the engine production division (for 1.6‑liter engines with over 120 hp and 1.8‑liter engines with over 130 hp), the company launched 10 automated machining centers for cylinder blocks and one for crankcases.
AvtoVAZ had previously announced the production modernization at the end of April. At that time, the company stated that employees would take a corporate vacation from May 1 to May 13, and that about 530 million rubles would be allocated for the work.
In the end, the plant returned from vacation, but the modernization work was not yet finished, so it was extended until May 17 while maintaining the regular work schedule.
