The Russian Electric Vehicle Market: Growth After a Decline

Following a downturn in 2025, Russian motorists are once again turning their attention to electric vehicles and hybrids. According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, sales of new electric vehicles increased by 22.5% — 2,272 cars were sold.
Automotive expert Oleg Moseev highlighted several key points:
  • The market leader is UMO (about 35% of sales in May). However, the expert clarifies that these are primarily vehicles for Yandex, which are not sold at retail.
  • Evolute is confidently gaining momentum (18% of the market). The reasons are government support, affordable pricing, and an expanding model lineup.
  • The top 5 also includes the Chinese brands Avatr, Geely, and Changan.
